The is an interview with Sarah G, 30 years old, professional. Sarah has Acupuncture for PCOS.
Why did you come for acupuncture treatment?
I was diagnosed with PCOS and was looking for a holistic alternative to medication in order to treat it more naturally, and deal with the root cause instead of just masking the symptoms with medication. I do not have the overweight type PCOS so it was extremely frustrating trying to find advice and treatments through a medical route that did not recommend weight loss or artificial hormones as the first port of call.
What was your experience of treatment?
It enabled me to align on my health goals and draw parallels between various conditions that I had not previously realised were connected – it’s really helpful chatting about what has been going on with my health between treatments and discussing other factors such as diet and exercise, and how to optimize these for my condition. I find the treatment itself extremely relaxing and gently eases my symptoms sometimes immediately but usually over the course of the next few days.
How did acupuncture help you?
I was able to completely reverse my PCOS symptoms without the need for medication or artificial hormones which was extremely important to me. By incorporating the dietary and lifestyle advice I received, I now have a regular period for the first time in over 18 months, my acne and hair loss have significantly improved, and the gastrointestinal discomfort I had experienced is also greatly relieved. It’s also really refreshing and relaxing to take some time out just for myself to do something that’s positive for my health and body.
If someone had a similar issue as you and was considering acupuncture, what advice would you give them?
I would definitely advise them to go for it – I am overwhelmingly happy to have discovered a natural, non-invasive treatment for PCOS which I did not think would be possible when I first started researching my condition. I would reassure them that it is possible to reverse the symptoms and that there is hope to heal your body without having to rely on medication for the rest of your life.
Anything else you think is important to add?
It’s really important to follow the dietary and lifestyle advice given in conjunction with the regular acupuncture treatments, as all of these factors are interconnected and rely on each other to heal your body. Also, it’s a long-term treatment, not a quick fix and requires more focus than just popping a pill, so anyone considering acupuncture should be committed to their health and making an overall change to their lifestyle to get the best results.
